Last part to Grateful Challenge

If you living in America, Happy Thanksgiving!! Hope this day is filled with family, love, thankful thoughs, and great food.

Today is the LAST of our 4 part series this month. This is your LAST CHANCE to play along. Since this holiday focuses a lot of family, I thought it would be great to wrap up this series with a challenge about your home. I want to know the many different parts of your home that you are grateful for. Are you grateful for the weather in your hometown? Are you grateful for the beautiful home you and your family built together? Are you grateful for the short commute to work? Are you grateful for the garden renovation project that you just finished in your backyard? Are you grateful for the tree that your kids use to climb in when they were younger? I want to know what you are grateful for when it comes to your home.

I apologize for not having an example to show you, but I'm off to make a bunch of pumpkin pies. That just means I have to play along with you. Make sure you participate this week because next week will be the big FREEBIE KIT reveal and I'll be PMing ALL of the participants of 2 or more of these challenges. You have until next week Tuesday, Dec 1, to participate in this challenge. Make sure to enter your entry in the comment section below.

Wishing you all a safe and grateful holiday!

Grateful Challenge Part 3

Have I got another fun challenge for you. Today is part 3 of 4 great challenge series. Remember, if you participate in 2 or more of these fun grateful challenges, you will received an EXCLUSIVE freebie kit by your favorite designer, STUDIO TANGIE! So continue to play along because I'm keeping track.

As we get closer to the holiday in which most Americans celebrate their blessings, I am reminded of how grateful I of family traditions. I grew up in a big family. My Grandma had 7 children, who then produced 29 cousins for me to grow up with. Our family is big and we love to eat. One of my treasured family traditions is to go to Grandma's house the night of Christmas Eve and have a traditional Hawaiian dinner. Being that we are part Hawaiian, my Grandma made it a point to only serve food that our ancestors ate when they celebrated. If you've never been to Hawaii or a lu'au for that matter, here is what is traditionally served at a Hawaiian feast:

Kalua Pig (oven roasted pig)

Squid Lu'au (minced squid, coconut milk, lu'au leaves, other seasonings)

Lomi Lomi Salmon (salmon, tomatoes, onions, green onions, salt)

Lau Lau (some kind of meat and sweet potatoe wrapped in lu'au leaves)

Poi (pounded taro root in the substance of thick pudding)

Chicken Long Rice (clear noodles cooked in a chicken broth served with chicken)

Haupia (a coconut dessert that tastes like thick jello)

I won't be offended if none of these food items is making your mouth water. They are all an acquired taste. Anywhoo, back to my story. Every year, each family member is in charge of bringing one or more of the food items. What I never understood about this family tradition is that I have an Aunt who must skip to the beat of her own drum because she is the only one who chooses to an item not on the luau list. She brings spaghetti. Out of all the foods I listed above, none of it tastes good with spaghetti. I don't know if someone told her as a joke that Hawaiians ate spaghetti or if she does this to rebel against my Grandma, but we can always count on her bringing spaghetti. And the funny thing is, she doesn't even make the spaghetti. She buys it from this take out place called Zippys'. Actually, one year she did bring fried chicken, which also happened to come from Zippys'. I just think it's a great family tradition that we have every Christmas Eve to feast on a beautiful Hawaiian feast and spaghetti.

I want to see you scrap about a tradition that you are grateful. It doesn't have to be related to Thanksgiving or Christmas or a holiday or even family for that matter. You could scrap about a high school friendship tradition that you do. Or an old co-worker group tradition. Or if it is family related, maybe you have a tradition of game night or a tradition of week long reunions every year. There's gotta be lots of traditions out there that are appreciated, so I want to see you scrap about it.

The deadline is Tuesday, Nov 24. If you want to participate, post in the comment below with a link to your layout. I'm looking forward to seeing the traditions you are grateful for.

Grateful Challenge Part Duex

Hey Everyone!! I LOVED all of your entries from last week. They were all such amazing tributes to wonderful people in your lives. As I've mentioned previously, I'm counting the amount of challenges you participate in, in order to receive Tangie's EXCLUSIVE FREEBIE KIT, so there are no winners to announce this week. Keep up with the participation!!

For this week's challenge, as part of the "grateful" series challenge, I'd like you to scrap about a moment in your life that you are grateful for. Last week was about something you are grateful for, and now I'm being more specific about a moment. I have a ton of moments I could scrap about that I am grateful for: my first kiss as a wife on my wedding day, the first wimpers of my son at his birth, being the only grandchild on both sides of the family to graduate from college, moving 2500 miles away from home to live in a place I've never visited before. But the moment I would scrap about would be the moment I had when I was 15. I had told my mother that I was afraid of April 23 coming (and I apologize if this date is your birthday). I didn't want April 23 to arrive and I didn't know why. I just had a bad bad bad feeling about the day. The one thing my mom suggested I do is to pray about it. So I did. I prayed every day for protection for me and my family from anything harmful happening to us. I prayed until April 23 arrived. I remember going to school and being ULTRA paranoid. I kept thinking some kid was going to scare me around a corner or someone was going to throw a raw egg at my head. I've never had an egg thrown at me, but at the time, I thought that was the worst thing that could happen to me in my complicated social existance in high school.

The day had come and gone. Nothing exciting. Nothing eventful. In fact, my family and I went to be early because there was nothing better to do. The next morning, I got ready for school as usual. I ran down the stairs to jet out of the house to catch the school bus when I noticed my mom sitting on the living room couch waiting for me. She asked me to sit with her on the couch and had explained that if I were late for the school bus, she'd take me to school. She then told me the story of what happened the night before...the NIGHT of April 23. At around 10pm, while we were all sounds asleep, my mom claims that she was awaken by angels who "literally" dragged her out of bed. (I don't know how much of that I believe, but I do believe she got out of bed). My mom said she was so tired, she still has no memory of how she left her room. She felt an alarming need to go downstairs. As she's heading downstairs, she breathes in an awful odor. By the time she gets to the bottom of the stairs, the odor is so strong, that my mom covers her nose and mouth with the sleeve from her arm. She searches downstairs to figure out where the odor is coming from. It turns out our gas stove had a pipe burst and is LEAKING GAS throughout house. Once my mom figured it out, she went outside to turn the gas off  and came back into the house to air out all the rooms by opening the windows.

Till this day, I still can't believe that that all happened while I was asleep. My mom thanked me profusely for praying for our safety on April 23 and believes my prayers were answered. It's a moment that I am forever grateful for. If things had turned out differently and my mom didn't wake up that night, I may have had a very different life today.

So now that I've told you my grateful moment, I want to hear about yours. What is your grateful moment and what impact or there lack of, has it made in your life. Scrap about it. Journal the heck out of it and post it in the comments below to share with all of us.

I can't wait to see your creations!!!
